Graduating senior Aditi Singh is one of just 621 semifinalists selected from a total of nearly 5,300 candidates expected to graduate from U.S. high schools this year.
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program is now in its 55th year. It is one of the highest honors given to graduating high school seniors and recognizes some of the nation’s most distinguished graduating seniors for accomplishments in several areas.
Each semifinalist is selected based on qualifiers including superior academic performance, artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in school and community activities.
The Commission on Presidential Scholars, which includes up to 32 eminent citizens appointed by the President, will select the finalists. The U.S. Department of Education will announce the Scholars in May.
The Scholars will ultimately be invited to Washington, D.C. for several days in June to participate in events and activities and receive the Presidential Scholar Medallion at a recognition ceremony.
